PENNSYLVANIA – A full complement of members from units in south central Pennsylvania turned out recently for a search and rescue exercise at Lancaster Airport based on a scenario involving a missing plane and evacuation of injured survivors.
In all, 87 officers and cadets participated in the exercise, which provided training in leadership, air and ground searches, cross-country navigation, map reading, communications, incident command, evacuation of survivors, liaison with other agencies and other critical skills.
"This was realistic training so our members will be prepared when they respond to an actual emergency situation,” said Lt. Col. Charles M. Bechtel, incident commander for the event and deputy commander for Pennsylvania Wing Group 3.
“We want them to know what to expect."
