Illinois Wing Group 1 ushered in a new and improved group-level emergency services training plan Saturday with a simulated missing person search at Rock Springs Park in O’Fallon.
Maj. Jacob Hiles, Scott Composite Squadron deputy commander for seniors, said the exercise was originally intended to expose team members to the realities of conducting a missing person search in cold weather.
Conditions didn’t cooperate, though, as participants arrived amid clear skies and unseasonably warm temperatures in the mid-60s.
The unfazed cadets capitalized on the opportunity to coordinate with aircraft and learn to navigate over mixed terrain in order to complete task-book requirements toward their respective Ground Team Member qualifications.
Senior members on hand simultaneously conducted mission base support function training in the mobile command center.
