FLORIDA – Eighteen Florida Wing pilots completed newly reformulated Garmin G1000 glass cockpit ground training Jan. 12-13, marking a first not only because of the new coursework but also because the session was conducted as a joint training mission hosted by Groups 6 and 7 and supported by check pilots and instructor pilots from those two groups and Group 5 as well.
“It was our goal to showcase that working together makes us more efficient in an era of limited resources,” said Lt. Col. Henry Irizarry, Group 7 commander. “There is no way we could have pulled this off without the assistance from the neighboring groups.”
The training syllabus covered flight management skills, display organization, use of navigation/communication radios, malfunctions and systems, among other required topics.
The pilots will now begin their required training flights and complete their check rides before they’re endorsed to fly G1000-equipped aircraft. The course also served as refresher for experienced G1000 pilots who participated.
