FLORIDA – Cadet Airman Roman Leone had one of his most rewarding experiences as a member of the St. Augustine Composite Squadron when he accompanied the unit’s deputy commander for cadets and public affairs officer, 1st Lt Dennis Maloney, to a luncheon meeting of the St. Johns County Council on Aging at Trout Creek.
Before Maloney spoke to the audience of senior citizens about Civil Air Patrol, Leone, clad in his battle dress uniform, went around hello to those present, making a lasting impression as a representative of the organization.
“This connection between the old and young is timeless,” said Judy Dorazio, senior center coordinator. “I am amazed each time I see an opportunity when this connection is resurrected.”
For his part, Leone said, “It was so much fun to see their expressions and how they wanted to shake my hand.”
It was a day he and many delighted senior citizens won’t soon forget.
