WISCONSIN — Cadets from the 153rd Madison Composite Squadron finished first in the Wisconsin Wing’s color guard competition March 13, while the Racine Composite Squadron’s team took the drill team competition.

Both squadrons will compete in their respective fields at the Great Lakes Region Competition, set for May 2-4 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The wing competition was held March 13 at John Long Middle School inGrafton.
 
Color guard competition first-place awards:

  • Written exam — Cadet Senior Master Sgt. Sean Patchin Jr., 153rd Madison Composite Squadron.
     
  • Mile run, male — Cadet Senior Airman Mitchell Vogel of Madison, 153rd Madison Composite Squadron.
     
  • Mile run, female —Cadet Airman 1st Class Crystal Staszak, of Milwaukee Composite Squadron No. 5.


The color guard and drill teams competed in several categories, including in-ranks inspection, standard drill, innovative drill, panel quiz, written exam and mile run.

The Madison unit’s color guard team placed first in the Outdoor Practical Drill, Panel Quiz and mile run, tying for first in the written exam with Milwaukee Composite Squadron No. 5. The Milwaukee team took first in the Panel Quiz.

The Fox Cities Composite Squadron’s color guard team finished second overall, which included first-place performances in In-Ranks Inspection, Standard Drill and Indoor Practical Drill.

The Racine squadron swept the drill team categories.
