ILLINOIS — Cadet Col. Jeramee G. Scherer of the Rockford Composite Squadron recently became the 1,749th recipient of Civil Air Patrol’s prestigious Gen. Carl A. Spaatz.

The award is the highest available to CAP cadets, with less than one-half of 1 percent receiving the honor since its introduction in 1964. The Spaatz is presented to those who have successfully completed the fourth and final phase of the cadet program.

Scherer is a junior at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, where he majors in aeronautical engineering.  Upon graduation, he plans on seeking a commission as an officer in the Armed Forces.

Scherer, who is also a recipient of CAP’s Lifesaving Award, has concentrated on training for a role in emergency services as a cadet.
