ALABAMA — That wintertime rarity for central Alabama, a snowstorm, presented no obstacles for the 2010 Alabama Wing Cadet Color Guard Competition on Feb. 13, won by the Bessemer Composite Squadron team.
Seven color guard teams from six squadrons — the Bessemer, Chilton County, Maxwell and Redstone composite squadrons and the Autauga-Elmore Cadet Squadron and Springville cadet squadrons, with the Redstone unit fielding two teams — competed in the event, held at the Clanton YMCA.
Teams faced off in seven categories — In-Ranks Inspection, Standard Drill, Indoor Practical Drill, Outdoor Practical Drill, Written Examination, Panel Quiz and Mile Run.
Judges for the drill events were members of the Auburn University Air Force ROTC Color Guard. Lt. Col. John Hall, the wing’s director of cadet programs, served as activity director for the competition.
As overall winner, the Bessemer team — Cadet Senior Master Sgt. Timothy Blake, Cadet Tech. Sgt. Corey Stewart, Cadet Staff Sgt. Brandon Bowlin and Cadet Airman 1st Class Joseph Gay — will represent the Alabama Wing in the Southeast Region Cadet Competition, set for March 26-28 at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla.
Second place Overall went to Redstone Team No. 1 — Cadet Staff Sgt. Jessica French, Cadet Senior Airmen Joshua Adomatis and Hayden Fry and Cadet Airman 1st Class Christopher French.
