SOUTH CAROLINA -- Florence resident David Caraway is a senior member of the Civil Air Patrol’s Florence Composite Squadron and has been active in CAP for more than 25 years. Recently, the CAP lieutenant colonel was honored with a Disaster Relief Ribbon award with “V Device” designation. The “V” designation is for service in a national disaster declared by the president. Caraway said receiving the award made him realize what he and hundreds of other CAP volunteers had done. “It surprised me,” he said. “I was just doing my job. I don’t do it for recognition. I’m satisfied with completing the mission.”
