'Air & Space' reports 200-plus aircraft took up oil spill fight to save the Gulf Coast

November 15, 2010

ALABAMA -- Lasting more than three months, the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill response involved more than 200 aircraft — many of them Civil Air Patrol Cessnas. The CAP fleet, coupled with U.S. Coast Guard aircraft, and countless others, formed one of the largest and most intricately coordinated civil air support missions in the nation’s history. Read more about the historic mission in Mark Huber’s story in the January 2011 issue of Air & Space/Smithsonian magazine.
