CALIFORNIA – Camarillo Composite Squadron 61 has a proud history of serving Ventura County and Southern California. The unit's community service is chronicled in this article in the local newspaper, the Ventura County Star. “We’re essentially a quasi-military organization under the supervision of the U.S. Air Force, and we operate various missions including search and rescue and counterdrug flights, among other things. We’re all volunteers, and we’re all dedicated to doing this work,” said the squadron’s public affairs officer, Maj. Anthony Schlotthauer. “They're the heroes next door," said retired Air Force Lt. Col. Jim McMichael, a former fighter pilot. “Anytime a plane goes down in this country, military or civilian, CAP looks for it. Period.”
