IDAHO -- The new Col. R. Jack Layton squadron of Civil Air Patrol has been chartered in Rexburg, thanks to a promise from Idaho Wing Commander Col. George Breshears. At a short ceremony recently in the Legacy Flight Museum, Breshears, along with squadron cadet commander Lt. Col. Zane Lemmon, the new squadron commander Lt. John Spaulding and Sharon Layton Stone, representing the Layton family, signed the charter for the squadron. Breshears said that when he shut down the squadron about a year ago, he vowed that with the help of former squadron members, it would be brought back stronger than before. He said since that time those who made up the former Rexburg squadron have more than kept their end of the deal. “The squadron stepped up. They took my promise and then ran with it,” he said.
