ALABAMA -- When Joshua Miller ran into a mutual friend of his and Capt. Steven Torbert, a helicopter pilot with the U.S. Marines, on the morning of Jan 14, he never dreamed that night he would get news that Torbert and 11 Marines were missing after two helicopters crashed off the coast of Hawaii. “God has a reason for everything, but it is baffling why something like this happens,” said Miller, associate pastor at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Florence. A memorial is tentatively planned for Friday at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay. Find out more about Torbert, who served with Miller as a cadet in Civil Air Patrol, in this story in today's Florence (Ala.) TimesDaily.
